Missouri Southern State University, mission statement--discontinuanceof associate degree program.
174.231. 1. On and after August 28, 2005, the institution formerlyknown as Missouri Southern State College located in Joplin, Jasper County,shall be known as "Missouri Southern State University". Missouri SouthernState University is hereby designated and shall hereafter be operated as astatewide institution of international or global education. The MissouriSouthern State University is hereby designated a moderately selectiveinstitution which shall provide associate degree programs except asprovided in subsection 2 of this section, baccalaureate degree programs,and graduate degree programs pursuant to subdivisions (1) and (2) ofsubsection 2 of section 173.005, RSMo. The institution shall develop suchacademic support programs and public service activities it deems necessaryand appropriate to establish international or global education as adistinctive theme of its mission. Consistent with the provisions ofsection 174.324, Missouri Southern State University is authorized to offermaster's level degree programs in accountancy, subject to the approval ofthe coordinating board for higher education as provided in subdivision (1)of subsection 2 of section 173.005, RSMo.
2. As of July 1, 2008, Missouri Southern State University shalldiscontinue any and all associate degree programs unless the continuationof such associate degree programs is approved by the coordinating board forhigher education pursuant to subdivision (1) of subsection 2 of section173.005, RSMo.
