Art gallery and museum--powers of board in urban districts.
170.221. The board of any urban district may receive andaccept gifts, donations and bequests of paintings, engravings,etchings, statuary and other works of art, curios, historicalrelics, collections of minerals and other articles proper to amuseum for use in connection with the public schools, and mayappropriate the sums necessary to properly care for, preserve andexhibit the same. The board may also receive gifts and bequestsof money and other property for use, and use the same inincreasing, preserving, maintaining and caring for the art andmuseum collections; and for that purpose may purchase sites anderect proper buildings for art and museum collections. Wheneverthe board files a verified statement with the county clerk,signed by the board or a majority of its members, certifyingthat, in its or their opinion, the art and museum collections areof the value of not less than twenty-five thousand dollars, thenthe board may submit to the voters of the school district aproposition to vote bonds for the purpose of erecting an artgallery and museum building for the proper keeping andmaintaining of the art and museum collections, which propositionshall be submitted to the voters of the school districts underall the terms and conditions of sections 164.131, 164.151 and164.161, RSMo.
