Exclusion of prior area from jurisdiction, when.
71.018. Whenever any city, town, or village has annexed anew site under the provisions of sections 71.016 to 71.019, thelegislative body of the city, town, or village may exclude fromits boundaries any portion or portions of the territory embracedwithin its limits as they existed prior to the annexation of thenew site whenever by reason of inundation, disoccupation or anyother cause whatsoever, the retention thereof within the limitsof the city, town, or village ceases to be desirable for thepublic interest and for the interest of the inhabitants thereofand of the owners of such land. Until such exclusion, allportions of the original territory of the city, town, or villageshall continue within its limits and shall be subject to itsgovernmental authority. Proceedings for such exclusion ofterritory shall be in accordance with the general laws of thisstate.
