72-4461. Awarding of scholarships and designation ofscholars;eligibility and qualifications; examination; state scholarshipeligibility not affected.(a) Within the limits of appropriations therefor and in accordancewith the provisions of this act:
(1) The board of regents may: (A) Award a vocationaleducationscholarship to every person who is enrolled in or accepted for admission toa vocational education program at a designated educational institution and whoqualifieson the basis of the results of a competitive examination of vocationaleducation ability and aptitude for designation as a vocational educationscholar and for the award of a vocational education scholarship; and(B)renew the award of a vocational education scholarship to every personwho is currently designated as a vocational education scholar and whoqualifies on the basis of satisfactory performance in a vocationaleducation program at a designated educational institution for the renewal ofthe awardof a vocational education scholarship;
(2) in each school year, theboard of regents may designate as vocational education scholarsand awardvocational education scholarships to those applicantswhoexhibit the greatest ability and aptitude for vocational education. Anapplicant who fails to be designated as a vocational education scholar andto be awarded a vocational education scholarship shall not be disqualifiedfrom applying therefor in a later school year so long as all requirementsfor eligibility to apply for such designation and award are met;
(3) in each school year, theboard of regents may renew the award of vocational educationscholarshipsto all vocational education scholars who remain eligible and qualified.
(b) A vocational education scholar who is eligible for the awardof astate scholarship under the provisions of article 68 of chapter 72 ofKansas Statutes Annotated may be awarded such state scholarship in additionto a vocational education scholarship. The amount received by a vocationaleducation scholar under a vocational education scholarship shall not beconsidered in determining financial need under the state scholarship program.
