65-6120. Emergency medical technician-intermediate;authorizedactivities.Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, an emergencymedical technician-intermediate may:
(a) Perform any of the activities identified byK.S.A.65-6121, and amendments thereto;
(b) when approved by medical protocols and where voicecontact by radio or telephone is monitored by a physician,physicianassistant where authorized by a physician or licensedprofessional nurse where authorized by a physician, and direct communication ismaintained, upon order of such person, may perform veni-puncturefor the purpose of blood sampling collection and initiation and maintenanceof intravenous infusion of saline solutions, dextrose and water solutionsor ringers lactate IV solutions, endotracheal intubation and administrationof nebulized albuterol;
(c) perform, during an emergency, thoseactivities specified in subsection (b) before contacting thepersons identified in subsection (b) whenspecifically authorized to perform such activities by medical protocols; or
(d) perform, during nonemergency transportation, those activitiesspecified in this section when specifically authorized to perform suchactivities by medical protocols.
