Article 11.--REGULATION OF NURSING

      65-1163.   Application of act.Nothing in this act shall:

      (a)   Prohibit administration of adrug by a duly licensed professional nurse, licensed practical nurse orother duly authorized person for the alleviation of pain, includingadministration of local anesthetics;

      (b)   apply to the practice of anesthesia by aperson licensed to practice medicine and surgery, a licensed dentist ora licensed podiatrist;

      (c)   prohibit the practice of nurse anesthesiaby students enrolled in approved courses of study in the administrationofanesthesia or analgesic as a part of suchcourse ofstudy;

      (d)   apply to the administration of a pudendalblock by a person who holds a valid certificate of qualification as anadvanced registered nurse practitioner in the category ofnurse-midwife;

      (e)   apply to the administration by a licensedprofessional nurse of an anesthetic, other than general anesthesia, for adental operation under the directsupervision of a licensed dentist or for a dental operation under thedirect supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine andsurgery;

      (f)   prohibit the practice by any registered nurse anesthetist who isemployed by the United States government or in any bureau, division or agencythereof, while in the discharge of official duties; or

      (g)   prohibita registered professional nurse from administering general anesthetic agents toa patient on ventilator maintenance in critical care units when under thedirection of a person licensed to practice medicine and surgery or a personlicensed to practice dentistry.
