Article 1.--NOTARIES PUBLIC

      53-101.   Appointment; term; qualifications; not state officer.The secretary of state shall appoint notaries public, who may perform notarialacts in any part of this state for a term of not more than fouryears, unless soonerremoved. Any person who is a citizen of the United States, who is atleast 18 years of age and who is a resident of thisstate, or who is a resident ofa state bordering on this state and whoregularly carries on a business or profession in this state or is regularlyemployed in this state,shall be eligible to beappointed as a notary publicas provided in this act. Notaries public shall not be considered as state officers.
