48-217. Use of ordnance or supplies issued by the United States;ammunition for salutes.No ordnance or quartermaster's supplies or other public propertybelonging to the United States for which the state of Kansas isresponsible, issued to the state and charged against its quota forproviding arms and equipments for the militia, shall be issued or loaned toany school or educational or charitable institution or society, or anyindependent military organization, or in any way diverted from the specificpurpose and intent of the general government in making the appropriationfor supplying equipment to the militia of the several states andterritories; but said ordnance and quartermaster's supplies and otherpublic property belonging to the United States shall be issued only to theorganized militia as recognized in this act, or to the reserve militia,when called out and organized as is herein provided: Provided, Thatammunition may be expended at a military funeral, or at the burial of anyold soldier or citizen of the state entitled to military honors, or infiring salutes at public ceremonies, when so ordered by the commander inchief.
