44-622. Evidence taking; examiner, appointment, qualifications, authority.The secretary of labor may appoint a person, orpersons, having a technicalknowledge of bookkeeping, engineering, or other technical subjects involvedin any inquiry in which the secretary of labor isengaged, asan examiner for the purpose of taking evidence with relation to suchsubject. The examiner when appointed shall take an oath towell andfaithfully perform the duties imposed upon suchexaminer, and shall thereafterhave the same power to administer oaths, compel the production of evidence, andthe attendance of witnesses as the secretary oflabor would have ifsitting in the same matter. The examiner shall receive suchcompensation as may be provided by law or as fixed by the secretary.
