Article 1.--FEES IN ALL COUNTIES AND SALARIES IN CERTAIN COUNTIES

      28-172b.   Indigents' defense services fund.(a) There is hereby established in the state treasury anindigents' defense services fund.

      (b)   The clerk of the district court shall charge a fee of $.50in each criminal case, to be deducted from the docket fee as provided inK.S.A. 28-172a, and amendments thereto, and shallcharge a fee of $.50 in each case pursuant to the revised Kansas codefor care ofchildren or the revised Kansas juvenile justice code and eachmental illness, drug abuse or alcoholism treatment action asprovided by subsection (d) of K.S.A. 28-170, and amendments thereto. Theclerkof thedistrict courtshall remit allsuch fees received tothe state treasurer in accordance with the provisions ofK.S.A. 75-4215, and amendments thereto. Upon receipt of each suchremittance, the state treasurershall deposit the entire amount in the statetreasury to the credit of the indigents' defenseservices fund.

      (c)   Moneys in the indigents' defense services fund shall be usedexclusively to provide counsel and related services for indigent defendants.Expenditures from such fund shall be made inaccordance with appropriation acts upon warrants of the director ofaccounts and reports issued pursuant to vouchers approved by thechairperson of the state board of indigents' defense services or a persondesignated by the chairperson.
