Article 3.--INDEPENDENT AND OTHER NOMINATION CERTIFICATES; TERMS OF OFFICE; FILLING VACANCIES

      25-312.   Vacancies in state and county offices, how filled.All vacancies in any elective state or county office, unless otherwise providedfor by law, shall be filled by appointment by the governor, until thenext general election after such vacancy occurs, when such vacancy shallbe filled by election. When any elected officeis provided by law to be filled by appointment by the governor of a personselected by a party district convention, and the immediately past incumbentof such office was an independent without political party affiliation, thevacancy shall be filled by appointment by the governor, until the next generalelection after such vacancy occurs, when such vacancy shall be filled byelection. If any vacancy shall occur in anystate office which is to be abolished, the appointment to fill suchvacancy shall extend until the date of such abolition and only untilsuch date.
