        252.26  GENERAL ASSISTANCE DIRECTOR.
         The board of supervisors in each county shall appoint or designate
      a general assistance director for the county, who shall have the
      powers and duties conferred by this chapter.  In counties of one
      hundred thousand or less population, the county board may designate
      as general assistance director an employee of the state department of
      human services who is assigned to work in that county and is directed
      by the director of human services, pursuant to an agreement with the
      county board, to exercise the functions and duties of general
      assistance director in that county.  The director shall receive as
      compensation an amount to be determined by the county board.
