        103A.21  PENALTY.
         1.  Any person served with an order pursuant to the provisions of
      section 103A.19, subsection 2, paragraph "c", who fails to comply
      with the order within thirty days after service or within the time
      fixed by the local building department for compliance, whichever is
      longer, and any owner, builder, architect, tenant, contractor,
      subcontractor, construction superintendent or their agents, or any
      other person taking part or assisting in the construction or use of
      any building or structure who shall knowingly violate any of the
      applicable provisions of the state building code or any lawful order
      of a local building department made thereunder, shall be guilty of a
      simple misdemeanor.
         2.  Violation of this chapter shall not impose any disability upon
      or affect or impair the credibility as a witness, or otherwise, of
      any person.
         3.  As an alternative to filing criminal charges as provided in
      this section, the commissioner may file a petition in the district
      court and obtain injunctive relief for any violation of this chapter
      or chapter 104A.
