103A.13 ALTERNATE MATERIALS AND METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION. The provisions of the state building code shall not prevent the use of any material or method of construction not specifically prescribed therein, provided any such alternate has been approved by the building code commissioner. The commissioner may approve any alternate if the commissioner finds that the proper design is satisfactory and that the material, method, or work offered is, for the purpose intended, at least the equivalent of that prescribed in the state building code in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability, and safety. The commissioner shall require that sufficient evidence or proof be submitted to substantiate any claim that may be made regarding alternate use.Section History: Early Form
