27-354. Cross-heads; buckets A. Vertical shafts more than two hundred feet deep from which hoisting is done by a bucket shall be provided with suitable guides, and with the bucket a cross-head traveling upon the guides shall be provided. The height of the cross-head shall be at least one and one-half times its width. If the cross-head is a type not secured to the hoisting rope, a stopper of a design approved by the inspector shall be securely and rigidly fastened to the hoisting rope at a suitable point above the rim of the bucket. The number of persons permitted to ride on the deck of a cage, or, in or on a skip or bucket, shall be determined by the inspector and no more than that number shall be allowed to ride. B. No persons shall ride upon a cage or in or on a skip or bucket when it is loaded with rock or ore, or when loaded with tools, timber, powder or other material, except for the purpose of assisting in passing it through the shaft. |
