INSTRUCTIONS: VERMONT HOUSEHOLD INCOME (Schedule HI-144)
Vermont taxpayers who are filing a rental rebate claim (form PR-141) or property tax adjustment claim (form HS-122) are required to complete and file this schedule documenting their household income as well. This document can be obtained from the website maintained by the government of Vermont.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 1: In the first three blank boxes, enter your last name, first name and middle initial.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 2: Enter your Social Security number where indicated.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 3: If applicable, in the next three blank boxes enter your spouse or civil union partner's last name, first name and middle initial.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 4: Where indicated, enter your date of birth.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 5: In the next section, enter the names of any other persons who had income and lived with you during the taxable year, as well as their Social Security numbers. Attach a separate piece of paper if you need to document more than two such household members.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 6: Throughout the remainder of the form, you are required to provide the requested figures for the claimant in column a, the requested figures for their spouse or civil union partner in column b, and the requested figures for all other household figures in column c. Lines a through m require you to document all sources of income.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 7: Add lines a through m and enter the resulting sums on line n. This figure is your total income for the year.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 8: Transfer the values from line n to the tops of the columns on the second page.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 9: The remainder of the form concerns adjustments to income. Follow the directions on lines o through y to determine your adjusted household income.
Vermont Household Income Schedule HI-144 Step 10: If the figure on line y is $47,000 or less and you are a renter, complete form PR-141. If greater than $47,000, you do not qualify for a renter rebate and should not complete this document. Homeowners with income up to $90,000 may be eligible for a property tax adjustment and should complete form HS-122, Section B. |
