Mandamus
A writ which commands an individual, organization, or court to perform a certain
action, usually to correct a prior illegal action or a failure to act in the
first place.
Mandate
1) to command; order 2) document or decision given by a judge or magistrate to
the proper official for the determination to be carried out
Mandatory Sentence
a legislative act requiring certain crimes to be met with at least a minimum
penalty; removes full discretion from judges in certain situations
