72.05-55—Furniture and furnishings.
(a)
For the purpose of this subpart, rooms containing “fire resistant furnishings” will be considered to be those in which:
(1)
All case furniture such as desks, wardrobes, dressing tables, bureaus, dressers, etc., shall be constructed entirely of approved incombustible materials; except that a combustible veneer not exceeding 1/8 inch may be used on the top surface of such articles.
(2)
All free standing furniture such as chairs, sofas, tables, etc., shall be constructed with frames of approved incombustible materials.
(4)
All rugs and carpets shall be of wool or other material having equivalent fire resistive qualities.
(b)
Waste paper baskets shall be constructed of approved incombustible materials with solid sides and bottoms.
(c)
Passageways and stairway enclosures shall contain only fire resistant furnishings. In addition, all upholstery and padding of chairs, sofas, etc., in these areas, shall be of approved fire resistant materials.
